Hello, young people of South Africa!
Happy Youth Month!
This is your time to celebrate.
Let’s use this Youth Day to remember the brave young people who helped us gain our freedom.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) invite you to commemorate Youth Day by participating in an essay writing competition that lets you think about the importance of African languages. The competition is open to young people in the Senior Phase (Grades 7-9) and in the FET Phase (Grades 10 – 12).
What we want you to write about:
Considering the history of South Africa, do you think it is important for children to be taught in their Mother Tongue?
What we want you to do …
Write an essay of between 250 and 300 words in your mother-tongue. If you cannot write in your mother-tongue, you are welcome to write in another language. Your essay can be typed or handwritten.
At the top of your essay include this important information:
Your name || Your grade || Your home language || Your school ||
Your province || Your phone number || Your email address
The closing date for entries is the 28 June 2022.
